The star is formally known as Tarazed, pronounced . It has an apparent visual magnitude of 2.712, making it readily visible to the naked eye at night. Parallax measurements place it at a distance of 395 light-years (121 parsecs) from the Sun. The star is drifting closer to the Sun with a radial velocity of −2.8 km/s.
