A group of southern constellations associated with water in mythology. Carina, Vela, and Puppis were once part of the enormous constellation Argo Navis, the mythical ship of the Argonauts.

💡Argo Navis was split into three separate constellations (Carina, Vela, Puppis) by Nicolas-Louis de Lacaille in the 1750s because it was too unwieldy as a single constellation.
