The only domesticated pepper with hairy leaves and black seeds. Thrives at high altitudes in the Andes where other peppers cannot grow. One of the oldest domesticated peppers, cultivated for over 5,000 years.
💡C. pubescens can tolerate near-freezing temperatures, unlike all other domesticated pepper species. It grows at elevations up to 3,000 meters in the Andes. Scoville range: 30,000–100,000 SHU.
